How selected tracking interval affects on GPS device's power consumption?

Tracker G400FI, G500FI, G5002013, G1000 and Supra
Tracking intervals between 3-15 sec

- The GPS device has it's power mode at "Full Power" and the device is constantly updating its position
- Position is updated continously with the selected tracking interval
- Has the highest power consumption


Tracking intervals between 16-60 sec

- The device gives position updates at the selected tracking frequency and transmits its position
- When the dog starts or stops barking, a fresh position update is first calculated, processed and then sent immediately with the barking information
- If wanting to balance tracking with power consumption, then 20sec tracking interval is the most optimal


Tracking intervals of 60+ sec

- The device gives position updates at the selected tracking frequency and transmits its position
- Dog barking does not affect position update frequency. The bark trail displayed on map, works with the accuracy of the set tracking frequency
- If Geofence Alarm is set, however, the GPS device will also do a position update at the frequency set in the Geofence Alarm and sends an alarm when the dog is out of range


Tracking intervals of 30+ minutes

- The device gives position updates at the selected tracking frequency and transmits its position
- If Geofence Alarm is set, however, the GPS device will also do a position update at the frequency set in the Geofence Alarm and sends an alarm when the dog is out of range.

Note! Use with caution, because:

- Between position updates the device enters sleep mode (hibernating), so that it cannot give position updates, or receive phone calls, or process commands sent to it. The commands are received by the device at least by the time when the device powers up for the next position update
- If You're having trouble getting position updates, use 15sec trackerin interval

Here are indicative estimates of what effect the selected tracking frequency has on the Artemis device's power consumption:

Tracking frequency 3sec -> battery lasts on average 19h
Tracking frequency 20sec -> battery lasts on average 1 day 20h
Tracking frequency 1min -> battery lasts on average 2 days 15h
Tracking frequency 2min -> battery lasts on average 3 days 6h

Differences in outdoor temperature also affect power consumption, and also other external factors e.g. if the device has to increase power to maintain an internet connection in a weak mobile operator's network, then it increases power consumption
