Guide to automatic firmware updates on Tracker Luna, Artemis, Bark and Active

Why updating your device firmware is important

Firmware updates are crucial for maintaining the optimal performance and security of your tracking devices, including Tracker Artemis, Tracker Bark / Tracker Active, and Tracker Luna. These updates can provide enhancements such as:

  • Improved accuracy in tracking.
  • Extended battery life.
  • Bug fixes and security patches.
  • New features and functionalities.


Regular updates ensure that your device operates smoothly and efficiently, providing you with the best possible tracking experience.   


The devices mentioned above download and install updates automatically so the updating process is made easy for our customers. These devices cannot be updated manually.


For other device models the update must be installed manually – please see the section on the end of this article.

Please note that updates are distributed to devices gradually over a period of a few days or weeks.
 

Conditions to start the update

For a successful update process the device will require the following:

  1. Full Battery: Ensure your tracking device has a full battery charge. This prevents the device from shutting down during the update, which could cause issues. It’s also important to fully charge the device battery from time to time to ensure a good battery health.

  2. Good Network Connection: A stable and strong network connection is essential for downloading and installing the update files. If the network is poor the device might not be able to run the update.
     

How to Know When the Update Has Started

The device will download the update and install it on startup and this will only take a couple of minutes. Lights on the device might flash differently compared to the normal function.


Do Not Turn Off the Device

It is crucial that you do not turn off your tracking device while it is updating. Interrupting the update process can lead to incomplete updates or device malfunctions.


How to Check When the Update is Complete

Once the update is finished, you can verify it through the Tracker application:

  1. Open the Tracker app.
  2. Navigate to the device info section.
  3. Confirm that the latest firmware version is installed. You can find the information on latest firmware updates on our support site support.tracker.fi

 

Update Duration

The update process typically takes just couple of minutes. 

 

Updating other device models

For other Tracker and Ultracom devices the update is done manually by the user. 

  1. Open the Tracker app.
  2. Navigate to the device info section.
  3. If there is an update available, the app will notify of any pending updates. You can send the update command by tapping on the app version. To view what the update contains, please check our support site support.tracker.fi
