Update on Tracker Dog Tracking Service Disruption on 9.11.2024

All times are in Finnish time (GMT +2).

On Saturday, 9.11.2024 at 10:40, a firewall device at our server hosting provider experienced a malfunction, causing an internet connection outage between the tracking servers and the applications. This resulted in a temporary interruption of location data from all dog tracking devices to mobile applications, except for devices using VHF, such as Hybrid and Avius models.

Our on-call staff immediately identified the issue, assembling the backend team to investigate. Within 4 minutes, our teams in Finland and Sweden were on task. The fault was quickly located, and we contacted the server hosting provider’s on-call staff, who rerouted communications to a failover system designed for such contingencies. About 10 minutes after the outage began, the system started to recover, and by 10:55 (after approximately 15 minutes), full location tracking functionality was restored.

However, during functionality testing, we found that collar commanding functionality had not yet fully recovered. This issue was resolved by 11:23. Later in the afternoon, we noticed instability in the Tracker Safety function, which the on-call team restored by 13:13.

We apologize for this disruption in location tracking caused by a severe network fault. We take such issues seriously and are actively investigating how to prevent and resolve them even faster in the future.
